Unity Multicultural Organisation is a registered charity and has been operating from the City of Sunderland since 1980.

We are a self- funding, non-profit making organisation

Mission Statement

At Unity we aim to Promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in Sunderland, by the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, sickness and the distress arising there from. Provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interest of Social welfare, for recreation or other leisure-time occupation of persons who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity, or disablement with the object of improving their condition of life. To work towards the elimination of all types of discrimination and promote good relations between all people of different origins. Here at Unity we are truly committed to supporting and helping develop equality and diversity issues.

Unity exists to provide facilities to all communities with the aim of promoting good relations between all races.

Our Aims

To remove barriers to assist the disadvantaged, vulnerable and disabled by:

  1. Being sensitive to peoples needs
  2. Giving practical support where necessary
  3. Building self-confidence of those unsure of themselves
  4. Breaking down barriers of prejudice and discrimination
  5. Ensure everyone is treated equally
  6. Disablement action/welfare/social benefits

What we do

  • Unity is a Multicultural Organisation that promotes the interest of all races and genders
  • Unity strictly practices equal rights and encourages other statutory bodies to comply
  • Unity encourages their members, charity, voluntary and strategic bodies to improve he quality of life for the vulnerable, disadvantaged and disabled. We are a point of contact and offer practical help and advice.
  • Unity recognises the need of all vulnerable and isolated people and provides mediation and counselling.

We offer a wide range of services

  • Unity provides advice, information and guidance on various matters, we deal with the following
  • Consumer and general contract / Housing / Debt / Immigration / Benefits / Employment / Health / Education and Training / Discrimination / Mental Health

General Assistance Includes:-

  • Casework/ Form Filling / Community Care / Court Applications and much more!
  • We also offer Advocacy / Interpreter and Counselling services

New Developments

In addition to our business as usual service user social and leisure activities, we have somewhat moved forward. This by no means we have ceased to continue to offer day-to-day activities, we do, pending funding is secured.

Over the past 3 years Unity developed its social and leisure services, which greatly help, attract people from all backgrounds, giving us an opportunity to really make a difference in our community.

Unity is the only organisation to organises and hosts the following annual cultural events in City of Sunderland.

Mela - an outdoor cultural music festival Mang/Millan Parties - evening indoor cultural events The events help us give people an opportunity to integrate and learn about one another - it helps break down those barriers and gives us common ground to build and develop relationships.

We always strive to promote good relations and have successfully created friendly and family oriented enjoyable events. We want to keep doing this - so that we can continue to build understanding between one another. We want to do this for YOU.

REMEMBER this years MELA is SUNDAY 1st AUGUST. WE PRE - LAUNCH the Mela from Thursday 28th July. Expect loads of sporting and light leisure activities on the Pre-Launch dates. We got loads on offer and its all for YOU! SO Mums and Dads everywhere don’t forget to come along to this FREE summer event in your area.

We are looking for volunteers to help out on the pre-launch and Mela days - interested, contact us! Want an opportunity to showcase your talent or help entertain - Let us know, we can see what we can do to promote you at this years MELA.
